Saddam Hussein goes on trial in Iraq


Saddam Hussein is put on trial in Central BaghdadThe trial of former cruel leader Saddam for crimes against his own people has commenced in Iraq under the watchful eye of the american military. He and eight associates are charged with ordering the killing of 159 Shia citizens in 1982 in Dujail.

His lawyer, Mr Dulaimi, insites the trial is a show and that he is seeking an adjournment.

The trial - filmed by TV cameras - is being heard in a specially built courthouse in the heavily fortified Green Zone in Baghdad.
